A softphone is software used for making telephone calls using an Internet Telephony Service Provider, such as BASIX™, over the Internet with a computer rather than dedicated phone hardware. Softphones are designed to function like a traditional telephone, usually appearing as the image of a phone.
A softphone will have a display panel and buttons so that a user is able interact. A softphone is usually used in conjunction with a headset connected to a computer or to a phone. BASIX's™ softphone has all the standard telephony features including: Do Not Disturb, Mute, Call Hold, Call Transfer, Presence Management and Internal and External number dialing.
